Country Should Be Country: Not Gender Oriented
Leslie Fram began to notice problems with the number of women playing on the radio. There was a dramatic decrease in female country singers. Keith Hill states that radios that play country should play less female singers in order to get an increase in ratings. Also, the Top 25 of Billboard’s Hot country songs chart contained three songs with female voices. In addition, Luke Bryan, a male country singer, is pushing for an investigation as to why there are not as many female artists on the radio. A charity show was hosted by Miranda Lambert in order to raise money for a scholarship. The scholarship was for interested women artists and musicians. Overall, there are fewer female artists getting recognized and played on the radio; female country vocalists deserve to be equal to male country singers.
